Technical innovation is essential to improve transportation infrastructure and provide more efficient transportation operations. It is important for transportation engineers to meet the dynamic challenges of growing demand in modern day transportation. The AATT provides a stage for exchange of experience for experts, specialists, researchers, and engineers. The AATT has received wide attention of the international community. Past conferences have been held at the following locations:
1989!1st AATT, San Diego, USA

1991!2nd AATT, Minneapolis, USA

1993!3rd AATT, Seattle, USA

1995!4th AATT, Capri, Italy

1998!5th AATT, Newport Beach , USA

2000!6th AATT, Singapore

2002!7th AATT, Boston, USA

With the rapid social and economic growth taking place in China, transportation infrastructure is going through a highly rapid phase of development throughout the nation. The state of transportation has improved significantly. The sustainable development of China¨s transportation has attracted the attention of the world transportation industry. In this backdrop, it is appropriate and timely that Beijing, the capitol of China, has been selected as the venue of the 8th AATT by ASCE.

With the approval form the Ministry of Communications and the Ministry of Science and Technology, the 8th AATT will be held in the Beijing International Convention Center on May 26~28, 2004. The event promises to attract officers, planners, managers, researchers, engineers and consultants from all over the world to discuss advanced technologies and exchange views and experience.
